COVID-19: Nearly 1.3 Billion Children, Youth Out Of School – UNESCO

School closures as a result of the coronavirus pandemic affected nearly 1.3 billion students, according to a new report by UNESCO.

A new set of guidelines issued by the UN agency, in collaboration with the World Bank, UNICEF, and WFP cautioned that the widespread closures of educational facilities present an unprecedented risk to children’s education and wellbeing.

The guidelines also offered practical advice for national and local authorities on how to keep children safe when they return to school.

“Rising inequality, poor health outcomes, violence, child labour, and child marriage are just some of the long-term threats for children who miss out on school,”said Henrietta Fore, UNICEF Executive Director.

“We know the longer children stay out of school, the less likely they are to ever return. Unless we prioritize the reopening of schools – when it is safe to do so – we will likely see a devastating reversal in education gains.”

The guidelines note that while there is not yet enough evidence to measure the impact of school closures on disease transmission rates, the adverse effects of school closures on children’s safety and learning are well documented. Gains made in increasing access to children’s education in recent decades risk being lost and, in the worse cases, reversed completely.

In the poorest countries, children often rely on schools for their only meal of the day,” said David Beasley, WFP Executive Director.

”But with many schools now closed because of COVID, 370 million children are missing out on these nutritious meals which are a lifeline for poor families. They are also being denied the health support they normally get through school.

“This could do lasting damage, so when schools reopen it is critical that these meal programmes and health services are restored, which can also help to draw the most vulnerable children back to school.”

Jaime Saavedra, World Bank Global Director for Education, said once schools begin to reopen, the priority would become reintegrating students into school settings safely and in ways that allow learning to pick up again, especially for those who suffered the biggest learning losses.

“This is a critical moment as it is the launching pad for a new normal that should be more effective and equitable. To manage reopenings, schools will need to be logistically prepared with the teaching workforce ready.

“And they will need to have plans specifically for supporting learning recovery of the most disadvantaged students. The guidelines offer a framework for moving forward that the major UN agencies are aligned around.”

FCT Administration Demolishes Houses In Abuja Despite Lockdown

No fewer than 50 families were rendered homeless at Paipe community near Idu-Karmo, Abuja, as the Federal Capital Territory Administration demolished their houses despite the lockdown of the city still in effect.

The exercise, which took place on Tuesday, rendered many residents homeless while many lost their valuables in the process.

SaharaReporters gathered that the officials neither issued a quit nor demolition notice to residents of the area before embarking on the exercise.

A victim of the demolition, Joy Moneke, who could not control her emotions, said she lost everything she had laboured for her entire life.

She said, “We sold some of our properties to make sure we completed that house only for this to happen.

“Where are we going to start from. We are left with nothing, our entire life is ruined. This is the only thing we have to hide our head”

Moneke, who was visibly devastated and overwhelmed as a result of the incident, wept profusely.

She called on well-meaning Nigerians to come to their aid in getting accommodation.

Our correspondent also spoke with one of the leaders of the community, Ibrahim Imam, who had his farmland and cashew plants destroyed in the demolition.

He said there was no notice from the FCT Administration before the exercise was carried out.

He said, “We were not given any prior notice, we just saw bulldozers and security agents including army pull down houses.

“I tried to even speak with the leader of the team to allow our people salvage their valuables before the exercise but they threatened to shoot me if I moved closer."

Efforts to get the reaction of the spokesperson for Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, Mrs Grace Zamani, was not successful as at the time of this report.

Nigerian Leaders Must Seek Home-grown Solutions To Fight COVID-19 –Ooni Of Ife

Nigerian leaders have been advised to look inwards for home-grown solutions to curb the spread of Coronavirus in the country.

Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, gave the charge on Thursday in Akure, Ondo State.

Oba Ogunwusi said Coronavirus had paralysed the economy of the country, adding that leaders had to be pragmatic in finding a solution.

He spoke while donating two Motorised Modular Fumigators to Ondo State Government to combat the spread of the virus.

He said, "I have to tell everyone that Coronavirus is real and we can't continue to rest on our oars but we have to look for the solution internally.

"In Nigeria, we must use what we have to get what we want. If increasing, it would be more dangerous.

"Many great countries in the world have gone through this.”

According to the Ooni, the two motorised disinfectants were initiative of the 'House of Oduduwa Machine Tools' and it would go a long way in stemming the tide of the pandemic.

Speaking, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu said the people must adhere strictly to health rules in order to join the government to combat the pandemic.

Kano Governor, Ganduje, Asks Buhari To Relax Lockdown Over Ramadan

The Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to ease the 14-day total lockdown imposed on the state.

Buhari had on Monday during a nationwide broadcast ordered a total lockdown on Kano following the rise of COVID-19 cases and the strange deaths in the state.

Ganduje, while speaking on Thursday, while inaugurating a panel of experts to support the state task force technical committee, said it is important to relax the lockdown for a while in order to ease the hardship in the state, especially in the holy month of Ramadan.

He said, “We would engage the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 to seek permission to relax the total lockdown imposed on Kano.
“We are making this appeal on behalf of our people who are presently running out of food items. We would love the Federal government to relax the lockdown for a period of time to enable people stock their homes, especially now that majority of us are fasting. It will also ease the economic hardship in the state.”

Coronavirus Impact Severe On Ogoni Communities, MOSOP Cries Out

The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People has lamented the impact of the outbreak of Coronavirus on Ogoni communities, describing it as very severe.

The group also decried the distribution of palliatives by the government, saying it was not being evenly distributed.

President of MOSOP, Fegalo Nsuke, also condemned the lack of testing in the region.

He said, "Although we understand the impact of the lockdown on the people, we seem not to have any choice than to avoid contacts with people and our people must understand how much this can help save lives amid severe hunger now being experienced.

“It is a good thing that there are currently no cases of the infection in Gokana and no kingdom has reported any case but there is no testing going on so we cannot rule out any possibilities."

Nsuke stated that the approach used in the distribution of relief materials in the state was capable of spreading the virus as there might be some cases amongst those, who assemble for the food items.

He added, “The current approach where crowds gather under the sun for loaves of bread and noodles is not only derogatory but can also aid the spread of the virus.

"Rather than encouraging crowds in the distribution centres, the government can consider supplying the foodstuff to designated retail outlets at controlled prices.

"It is therefore important that whatever intervention at this time should be done with consideration for the dignity and safety of our people."

Atiku’s Son Tests Negative For COVID-19 After 40 Days In Isolation

Mohammed Atiku-Abubakar, a son of Nigeria’s former vice-president, has now tested negative for coronavirus.

“I have just received my second consecutive negative result,” Mr Atiku-

Abubakar said on Monday afternoon. “My discharge is currently being processed, and I hope to be home this evening.”

The Nigerian disease control office does not comment on individual cases.

Mr Atiku-Abubakar was first confirmed to have contracted the virus on March 19 and was subsequently transferred to an isolation centre on the outskirts of the Nigerian capital, Abuja.

The 31-year-old, however, failed to test negative for the virus until today, a 40-day ordeal that experts said could be amongst the longest ever recorded in the country since the first infection was confirmed in Lagos February 27.

Kim Jong-un’s Absence and North Korea’s Silence Keep Rumor Mill Churning

Rumors about the North Korean leader’s health — and speculation over his possible death — have only increased over the past two weeks

Video player loading

SEOUL, South Korea — North Korea is still sending letters and gifts to foreign leaders and domestic workers in the name of its leader, Kim Jong-un. Its news media brims, as usual, with panegyrical propaganda extolling Mr. Kim’s leadership. South Korea reiterates that it has detected “nothing unusual” in the North. President Trump has called “incorrect” and “fake” a report that Mr. Kim was “in grave danger” after surgery.

All this has done little to stop the rumor mill churning about Mr. Kim’s health and the fate of the nuclear state — for the simple reason that North Korea has not reported a public appearance by its leader for two weeks. Nor has it responded to lurid claims about his health.

The lack of real information from the hermetic country is giving rise to rampant rumor mongering, leaving North Korean experts, foreign officials and intelligence agencies to parse through it all for signs of the truth.

Depending on the news outlet or social media post, Mr. Kim, believed to be 36, is recuperating after a minor health issue like a sprained ankle, or he is “in grave danger” after a heart surgery. Or he has become “brain dead” or is in a “vegetative state” after a heart-valve surgery gone wrong at the hands of a nervous North Korean surgeon or one of the doctors China dispatched to treat him. Or Mr. Kim is grounded with Covid-19. Where did he get it? From one of those Chinese doctors.

One rumor circulating in South Korean messaging apps claims that after French doctors could not wake Mr. Kim from his “coma,” Kim Pyong-il, a half brother of Mr. Kim’s late father, seized power with the help of pro-Chinese elites in Pyongyang, the North’s capital. It goes on to say that Mr. Kim’s powerful sister, Kim Yo-jong, has been detained while Beijing is secretly bargaining with Washington over the future of North Korea and its nuclear weapons.

It goes on to say that Mr. Kim’s powerful sister, Kim Yo-jong, has been detained while Beijing is secretly bargaining with Washington over the future of North Korea and its nuclear weapons.

Seoul has questioned the accuracy of the unconfirmed reports, while the South Korean news media appears to dismiss most of them as online rumors spreading through Chinese social media and beyond. But they cannot be completely ignored, since North Korea is so secretive that the world’s most powerful intelligence agencies have been unable to penetrate Mr. Kim’s inner circles.

Mr. Kim last appeared publicly on April 11, when he presided over a Politburo meeting. Speculations about his health began swirling after Mr. Kim missed state celebrations for his country’s biggest holiday, the April 15 birthday of his grandfather and founder of North Korea, Kim Il-sung.

Rumors went into overdrive after Daily NK, a Seoul-based website relying on anonymous sources inside the North, reported on Monday that Mr. Kim was recovering from heart surgery performed on April 12. The next day, CNN added to the frenzy, reporting that Washington was monitoring intelligence that Mr. Kim was “in grave danger.” On Saturday, TMZ, a celebrity-news tabloid website in the United States, blared: “N. Korea dictator Kim Jong-un reportedly dead after botched heart surgery.”

More than once, Mr. Trump has wished Mr. Kim well if he indeed were ill.

“North Korea’s secrecy and our lack of reliable information create a breeding ground for rumors,” said Leif-Eric Easley, a professor of international studies at Ewha Womans University in Seoul. “But his continued absence would be destabilizing as more people in and outside the country wonder if he is incapacitated or dead.”

In recent days, the South Koreans and their allies in Washington have scoured North Korea with the help of spy satellites and other resources for signs of Mr. Kim and preparations for missile launches.

Their efforts led them to Wonsan, an east coast town where Mr. Kim’s family has a seaside compound complete with yachts, Jet Skis, a horse track and a private train station.

A train “probably belonging to” Mr. Kim has been parked there since at least Tuesday, 38 North, a Washington-based website specializing in North Korea, reported on Saturday, citing commercial satellite imagery.

Wonsan is one of Mr. Kim’s favorite sites for missile tests. A South Korean news report said on Saturday that the United States had detected preparations for a missile test in Sondeok, farther up the east coast, where North Korea launched missiles in August last year and again in Marchin Mr. Kim’s presence.

South Korean officials privately say that Mr. Kim’s presence at a missile test could be a strategic way to quiet the speculation. But North Korea has also used such preparations to keep its external foes guessing.

There is a deep geopolitical fascination with North Korea, the world’s most isolated police state.

The country has detonated six nuclear bombs in underground tests and claims to have built missiles powerful enough to deliver them to the continental United States. It is also run by a man who was dismissed as a figurehead when he took power in 2011 in his twenties.

Mr. Kim has since established firm control, proving brutal enough to execute his own uncle, a potential threat to his power, and once calling Mr. Trump a “mentally deranged U.S. dotard.”

Mr. Kim’s sudden demise could create a power vacuum with far-reaching implications.

Over the decades, American and South Korean officials have discussed top-secret contingency plans, including how to prevent the North’s nuclear weapons from falling into wrong hands, and what to do if Beijing sends troops into the North to stabilize its neighbor, which has long served as a buffer between China and American forces based in South Korea.

In this secretive society, any likely successor to Mr. Kim amounts to a guessing game, even for outside analysts who have spent their academic careers parsing the North.

Will it be his only sister, Kim Yo-jong, who has recently expanded her role in his government? What about Kim Pyong-il, who returned home last year after serving for decades as North Korea’s low-key ambassador to Eastern European countries?

Some predict a collective leadership to be led by Choe Ryong-hae, the No. 2 in government hierarchy. What if a yet-unknown but ambitious general engineered a putsch? How would North Koreans who have been trained to worship the Kim family respond?

“While North Korea’s neighbors are mired in domestic politics during a global pandemic, U.S.-China relations are tense, and international organizations are strained, the world isn’t well prepared for the death of Kim Jong-un,” Mr. Easley said.

This is not the first time Mr. Kim has disappeared from public view for weeks at a stretch or faced speculation about his health. But the strange personality cult surrounding Mr. Kim — his bombast, obesity and even hairdo — ensure rumors can take hold.

Officials are careful not to quash the rumors outright, in part because their past predictions on the North have sometimes proved wrong. Reporting on North Korea, too, has been strewn with blunders.

Top officials reported to have been executed have often resurfaced. Some of the defectors, who feed information to the news media, have been accused of, or admitted to, embellishing their accounts.

In 1986, a South Korean newspaper reported a “world scoop” claiming that Mr. Kim’s grandfather, then-President Kim Il-sung, died in an armed attack. A smiling Kim Il-sung resurfaced two days later.

In 2014, Kim Jong-un disappeared for more than a month, prompting rumors that he might have been deposed in a coup. North Korean media later showed him walking with a cane after what South Korean intelligence called an ankle surgery.

In 2015, a North Korean defector claimed that Mr. Kim ordered his own aunt to be killed with poison. But the aunt, Kim Kyong-hui, re-emerged in Pyongyang in January.

The rumors can also turn out to be true.

In 2008, Mr. Kim’s father and predecessor, Kim Jong-il, was absent from view for months. South Korean analysts and the news media speculated, correctly, that he had a stroke. He died three years later.

Some of the biggest skeptics of the latest rumors are North Korean defectors themselves.

Thae Yong-ho, a former North Korean diplomat who defected to South Korea, said it was hard to believe that any reliable information about Mr. Kim’s health was leaked from his most trusted aides. Mr. Thae said that no one in his office in the North Korean Foreign Ministry knew of Kim Jong-il’s death in 2011 until they were gathered at an auditorium for an “important announcement” and saw a female announcer appearing on the TV screen, clad in funeral black.

Joo Sung-ha, a North Korean defector-turned journalist for the South Korean newspaper Dong-A Ilbo, said in a Facebook post that it was reasonable to believe that Mr. Kim had health problems. But he had zero trust in news reports detailing whether and why the North Korean leader faced a grave medical emergency.

Such details about “the health of the Kim family is the secret among secrets,” he said, calling the people who claim to know “novelists.”

BREAKING: Lebanese Who Offered To Sell Nigerian Woman For $1,000 Arrested

Dabiri-Erewa however, did not say if the Nigerian woman believed to be a native of Oyo State, had been rescued.

A Lebanese man, Wael Jerro, who offered to sell a Nigerian woman for $1,000 on Facebook, has been arrested by the Lebanese Government.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, broke the news in a post via her Twitter handle on Thursday.

Dabiri-Erewa however, did not say if the Nigerian woman believed to be a native of Oyo State, had been rescued.

She said, “Trafficked Nigerian girl for sale on Facebook by a Lebanese.

"The Lebenese Government just announced the arrest of Mr Wael Jerro  for onward prosecution against criminal sale of a human, a young Nigerian girl.”

Buhari, Now Is Time To Slash Salaries, Allowances Of Political Officers By 70 Per Cent By Fredrick Nwabufo

Everyday Nigerians should not remain the beast of burden. We cannot keep breaking our backs to sustain the prodigality of the government. President Buhari must show leadership and direct the RMAFC, in consonance with relevant ministries and bodies, to do the needful and slash the salaries and allowances of all political officers now.

Nigeria is an impoverished country. In fact, the country has never been rich – in the economic sense of the word. The assumptions of wealth have always been hyphenated to the abundance of crude oil and other natural resources. But these alone do not make the country rich. As a matter of fact, the exploitation and expropriation of these resources by the thieving elite have only made the country poorer – and of course, the poverty capital of the world.

The price of crude oil has come under immense shock. The United State WTI (West Texas Intermediate) crude price entered negative territory ($-2) on Tuesday. Though Brent crude, Nigeria’s brand still trades at $26.36. There is no doubt; it is a long way from recovery for the oil market as forecasts by some industry experts say.

According to Bloomberg, “A near-term recovery in prices seems unlikely, with around 70 per cent of 130 respondents to a Bloomberg Intelligence survey saying they see Brent still below $30 a barrel by June.”

What does this mean for Nigeria where crude oil still accounts for 90 per cent of government’s export revenue? It means the government cannot meet up with some of its obligations to citizens. It implies, the government may not be able to fund some capital projects and may experience challenges in paying salaries. There is a leaner purse; hence there is an exigent need to cut down the cost of governance at this time.

Already, the federal government has revised the 2020 budget, slashing it by over N320bn; from N10.59trn to N10.27trn. But this is not enough. At a time Nigerians are losing jobs owing to the adverse impact of COVID-19; when some doctors confronting this lethal disease are receiving N5,000 as hazard allowance and even without an insurance cover; when small businesses are closing down, I believe our political leaders must show exemplary leadership and not leave the cross only to everyday Nigerians to bear.

In October, I wrote: “The flatulent size of the National Assembly accents the orthodoxies and paradoxes of Nigeria. Nigeria’s lawmakers are some of the highest paid in the world, in a country where about 100 million people live on less than a dollar per day, and where citizens are expected to be stoic and exist in deficit while their representatives in parliament ensconce themselves in surplus.

“Is it not pharisaic that while the government insists on burdening citizens with more taxes and increasing the yoke, there is no reciprocity on their part? What is the government doing to shrink the cost of governance?”

Alas, I am revisiting this topic owing to the never-ending deprecating realities of Nigeria.

According to the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, the agency empowered to fix the salaries and allowances of political office holders, a senator receives, on average, an annual salary and allowance of N12.7m, including hardship allowance of N1.2m. Again, this is while doctors and health workers combating COVID-19 earn N5,000 as hazard allowance.

Interestingly, Prof Itse Sagay had put the annual earnings of a senator to N3bn. He made the claim while delivering the Nigerian Society of International Law Public Lecture entitled:  “The Many Afflictions of Anti-Corruption Crusade in Nigeria” in Lagos in September, 2017.

He gave the breakdown as: “Basic Salary, N2, 484, 245.50; hardship allowance, N1,242, 122.70; constituency allowance N4, 968, 509.00; furniture allowance N7, 452, 736.50; newspaper allowance N1, 242, 122.70; wardrobe allowance, N621,061.37; recess allowance N248, 424.55; accommodation N4,968,509.00; utilities N828,081.83; domestic staff N1,863,184.12; entertainment N828,081.83; personal assistant N621,061.37; vehicle maintenance allowance N1,863,184.12; leave allowance N248,424.55; severance gratuity N7, 425,736.50, and motor vehicle allowance, N9, 936,982.00.”

Nevertheless, the biggest cost burden of the government comes from the executive where there seems to be a carte blanche to waste, profligacy and gluttony. While the National Assembly is subject to probes and checks by concerned citizens, the executive carries on in squander with tempered scrutiny.

Also, governors appropriate for themselves whatever of their state’s resources they fancy in the name of “security vote”. I understand there is a new one now in the states – “COVID-19 vote”.

In fact, some governors are beginning to renege in paying the N30,000 minimum wage instancing COVID-19 as a reason for their financial impotence. In Gombe, the governor suspended the payment of the approved N30,000 wage, and blamed his action on the economic impact of the pandemic.

Slashing the prodigious salaries and allowances of political officers will be the most effective palliative to Nigerians.

Samira Daoud, Amnesty International's Director for West and Central Africa, in a statement said detention centres are fast becoming risks to public health especially given the general lack of health care and sanitation.

Amnesty International has called on authorities in Sub-Saharan Africa to take urgent action to prevent the spread of Coronavirus by releasing prisoners of conscience, reviewing cases of pre-trial detention, and guaranteeing access to healthcare and sanitation products in all facilities.

Samira Daoud, Amnesty International's Director for West and Central Africa, in a statement said detention centres are fast becoming risks to public health especially given the general lack of health care and sanitation.

She said, "In many countries across the region, a high proportion of those in detention are there just for peacefully exercising their human rights. As well as being the right thing to do, releasing prisoners of conscience immediately and unconditionally would free up space in these facilities and help to protect prisoners and staff from the virus.

"Amnesty International is also calling on authorities to consider early, temporary or conditional release of older prisoners and those with underlying medical conditions, as well as women and girls who are in detention with dependent children or who are pregnant.

"Across Sub-Saharan Africa, pre-trial detention remains widely used excessively and as a tool of punishment.  As at June 2019, there were 28,045 people detained in prisons in Madagascar which have a total national capacity of 10, 360. More than 75 per cent of the 977 boys detained were in pre-trial detention.

"Children and adults accused of petty crimes in Madagascar are equally forced to stay in overcrowded and unhygienic prisons for longer than the legal term of pre-trial detention. In Senegal, before the release of detainees announced in March 2020, the country had 11,547 people held in 37 prisons with a total capacity of 4,224 detainees. Similarly, Burundi, whose prisons have a capacity of 4,194 people, had 11,464 detainees by December 2019, of which 45.5% were in pre-trial detention.”

Amnesty International said leaders must act fast to release those who shouldn't be incarcerated in the first place to prevent a public health crisis.

Social Distancing May Be Needed Until 2022 To Stop Coronavirus Spread –Harvard Study

The researchers warn that lifting social distancing measures all at once could just delay the peak and make a second surge in infections more severe.

orms of social distancing may be needed until at least 2022 to stop the spread of Coronavirus and to prevent the health care system from being overwhelmed, a new Harvard study has found.

The study on COVID-19 warned that sporadic periods of social distancing could be needed for another two years to prevent new surges in infections.

The researchers warn that lifting social distancing measures all at once could just delay the peak and make a second surge in infections more severe, according to the study published on Tuesday in the Science journal, Daily Mail UK, said.

They warn that a single period of social distancing measures – like the ones currently in place – will not be sufficient.

Current social distancing measures in the United States are due to expire on April 30 but health experts are urging for continued social distancing measures to defeat the Coronavirus.

The study says a number of factors will play a role in the trajectory of the Coronavirus over the next few years, including if it is seasonal and the extent of immunity.

Those questions are among those currently being weighed by health officials and lawmakers as they work on deciding when the United States should reopen again.

Health experts think it is unlikely that COVID-19 will follow its closest cousin, Sars-CoV-1, and be eradicated by intensive public health measures after causing a brief pandemic.

Instead, the transmission could resemble that of pandemic influenza by circulating seasonally.

Ekiti Chief set ablaze over assumed infidelity

A Tiv man, identified simply as Sunday, and three others have allegedly burnt to death in a bush the Onibedo of Ilotin Ekiti, Chief Sola Fatunla.

It was gathered that Sunday, who deals in charcoal, had earlier accused Fatunla of having a love affair with his wife, identified simply as Tadeni, but the matter was said to have been resolved as it was realised that the chief and his wife were mere family friends and Sunday was said to have apologised for his behaviour.

But events took a tragic turn on Sunday when Fatunla followed the man to the bush.

Sunday had allegedly begged Fatunla to use his influence as a chief in Ikole Ekiti to plead with some people he claimed had seized his charcoal in the bush.

A source said, “While accompanying him and Tadeni to where the charcoal was allegedly seized, three others, who Sunday had allegedly connived with to abduct Fatunla and Tadeni, appeared from the bush around Iyemero Ekiti in the Ikole Local Government Area of the state and manhandled the chief and the lady.

“Both Fatunla and Tadeni were tied to trees. The men beat Fatunla with their cutlasses. Later, they poured petrol on him and set him ablaze. It was when they came back to mete punishment out to Tadeni that they realised that she had escaped.

“When Sunday and his accomplices could not find Tadeni, they decided to escape through Patigi in Kwara State to Benue State with the aid of Fatunla’s motorcycle. Unfortunately for them, they were apprehended by vigilantes in Patigi, who queried their mission at that time of the night.

“When the vigilantes stopped Sunday and his accomplices to question them as to their mission in the area, especially during the lockdown, Fatunla’s phone that was in Sunday’s pocket exposed them, following which they were arrested and handed over to the police in Kwara State.”

According to the source, Fatunla’s remains have been deposited in the morgue, while the suspects have been taken to the Ikole Ekiti Police Division for transfer to the police headquarters in Ado Ekiti.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Ekiti State, Sunday Abutu, confirmed the incident saying, “There was a murder case; one of the chiefs in Ikole Ekiti was murdered on a farm. We are still trying to investigate the matter. I will get back to you on the details.”
